Dr. Cruz-Banting’s foundation in Physical Therapy, her premedical course, has given her extensive experience in rehabilitation. She worked as a licensed physical therapist in Florida before beginning her residency training in New York, an experience that provides her with a unique advantage in helping patients recover from injury or illness. She has in-depth knowledge of various treatment modalities and is skilled at prescribing individualized therapeutic exercises tailored to each patient’s needs.

She did her residency training from 1995–1999 at New York Medical College rotating in different hospitals including Westchester County Medical Center, Montefiore North formerly Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, Metropolitan Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital and Jacobi Medical Center Pediatric Rehabilitation. During her senior/fourth year of the residency program, she was appointed as the Chief Resident of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation program in Montefiore North Hospital. She graduated at the top of her class at the University of the City of Manila, College of Medicine in 1990 as a medical scholar. Her undergraduate was Physical Therapy where she graduated Cum Laude at the University of Santo Tomas. She practiced as a licensed physical therapist first in FL from 1991–1995 and continues to maintain a PT license in NY.

In 2000, Dr. Cruz-Banting became board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She is also a physician certified to practice acupuncture. Currently, she is affiliated with Montefiore North Hospital and St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York, and serves as an instructor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.

Her previous roles include Consulting Physiatrist for Long Island Medical, PC, full-time Physiatrist at Advance Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, P.C., and Vice President & CEO of Parkway Medical & Rehabilitation, P.C. from 2000–2009. Today, Dr. Cruz-Banting serves as the President of Imelda Cruz-Banting, MD, PC, your trusted Bronx medical center.

Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Cruz-Banting is a devoted mother of two and an active community member. She regularly volunteers for medical missions that provide care to underserved communities in the Philippines. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Medical Society of the State of New York, and Bronx Medical Society. She is also a member of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and is committed to making a positive impact in her community.
